Attraction Details :
Located approximately 64 kilometers far from the town of Suphanburi, Bueng Chawak is a large natural freshwater lake that covers the area of over 2,700 Rai. Because of its great variety of flora and fauna, this wildlife sanctuary was registered as an important wetland under the Ramsar Convention. In 1995, the Wildlife Extension Center, the Exhibition Center for Aquatic Animals and the Garden of Indigenous Vegetables were built in the lake area along with Thai massage shops and speed boats service.
Around the lake is an area with shady trees where the wind blows comfortably. The lake is filled with red and pink lotuses which all bloom beautifully in the morning. During winter, from November to March, a large flock of migratory lesser whistling ducks flies in the lake and leaves in April. There are shelters where tourists can rest and water bicycling activity that they can enjoy. Tourists can also ask for permission to camp around the lake area. Currently, Bueng Chawak is being developed to be a prime tourist destination of Suphanburi along with other sights in its area; Bueng Chawak Chalerm Phra Kiet Aquarium, performance stages around the lake, a freshwater crocodile farm, the Wildlife Extension Center, tiger and lion dens, a rabbit island, a local OTOP handicrafts center, a local rice mill and the Garden of Indigenous Vegetables.
